Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is set to sign a landmark contract worth $1 billion with GE Aerospace for the supply of 113 F404-IN20 fighter jet engines, a move aimed at strengthening India’s defense capabilities.
The F404-IN20 engines are designed to power the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, a key component of India’s push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing. The agreement is expected to significantly boost operational readiness of the Indian Air Force (IAF) by ensuring timely supply of advanced propulsion systems.
Industry experts note that this deal not only supports India’s modernization plans but also marks a deeper collaboration between HAL and GE Aerospace, reinforcing long-term strategic ties in defense technology.
With this development, India takes another major step towards enhancing its indigenous fighter aircraft program while aligning with the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative in the defense sector.
